Walking Tips

Use the TravelSmart Map to work out the most
efficient walking route to work. As you build up fitness and confidence
you may want to take other streets and explore your neighbourhood more,
too.

If you are using a bag, use a backpack with two shoulder straps to
evenly distribute the weight of the bag. This will reduce shoulder and
back strain that could occur if you put your bag on one shoulder.

Wear comfortable shoes.

Swing your arms, keeping your shoulders relaxed, head in a natural
position.

Try to stop and stretch at the end of your walk.

Don't over exert yourself and remember to breathe naturally. You should
be able to maintain a conversation whilst walking.

Remember to drink lots of water and take a water bottle with you if
your trip is more than half an hour.
